Contamination From Human Saliva In Food
While dry mouth may not sound like much, for those who suffer from this persistently, it can become very irritating and lead to bad breath (halitosis). Thankfully, there are plenty of simple remedies to help increase saliva production and avoid ending up with painful mouth sores or bacterial infections.
What Causes Dry Mouth?
One very common cause of dry mouth is medications, particularly those used to treat depression, schizophrenia and allergy symptoms. While in many cases the side-effect is worth treating using other methods, some people may find changing dosage or medication can help. However, always seek medical advice first and do not just stop taking any medication, as this may have very serious health consequences.
Medications known as atypical anti-psychotics, such as Seroquel (Quetiapine) commonly cause dry mouth. Read the leaflet which accompanies your medication to find out whether dry mouth is likely to be caused by medicine. Further causes of dry mouth include oral cancer, radiation and chemotherapy treatments.
